Writing historical fiction: sometime journal of a New York City novelist

again a very overdue blog

March 2, 2017

What I have learned in the last several months is that life intervenes in the very best of plans and some personal stuff slowed me down for a bit. But I am now writing intensely, preparing to speak at two conferences in addition to travels to Scotland and London soon. So this is a short blog and just wanted to say I am so indebted to all my readers and friends!

Hey, from Gary. We met near Windsor Castle, probably mid-1990s. A Facebook friend of mine was playing one of those games where you grab the closest book and type a sentence from a random page, and honest, the closest book was Nicholas Cooke. I was glad to see a recent blog post, figured I would say hello.

How odd and wonderful, Gary! I think I was in Windsor around 1993 when NICHOLAS COOKE was in production. How lovely of you to remember me and to write!

I'm just finishing the second installment in the Nicholas Cooke trilogy and eagerly look forward to the third. Any idea when that might be available?

Thank you, Peter! It's 3/4 done. Publishers wanted other sorts of books from me so this one has been slow in coming. It will come perhaps in 2-3 years...it takes 18 months for a book to be published after the contract is signed in most places. I do love it so and want to finish it.

I can appreciate how busy your life is. Busy, productive & happy is the key to balance. Love your books. I have published my first two books so nowhere near on the same level as you. But reading what you do is inspiring. Thank you.
